Etiquette wise, should you greet your ex-girlfriend “Happy Birthday” when her birthday comes? Ended bad though?

Question by Lyonn: Etiquette wise, should you greet your ex-girlfriend “Happy Birthday” when her birthday comes? Ended bad though?
I mean, the relationship ended bad and never spoke to her since. 6 months ago we split I think. Should I greet her on her birthday this October? I don’t love her anymore. I just want to know if it’s etiquette to do so.

Do you want her to have a happy birthday? You could tell her so. I don’t think you have to though. There are no “rules” when it comes to breakups, especially bad ones. Just do whatever feels right to you.

Did she, or will she wish you a happy birthday?

Thank you for your comments! I found this very helpful. The important thing to consider is the ‘end’ of your actions. I don’t think you will ever greet your ex just for the sake of greeting your ex. You most probably (still) want that person back, be sorry to, or get revenge. For friendship’s sake? I don’t believe that too. In the end, I opted not to greet my ex. Time to grow up and move forward in both our (separate) lives.
